Iraq Practice
The geographical proximity, and the legal system and commercial code similarity between Iraq and Jordan enables us to seamlessly apply our banking, financial and commercial field experience in Iraq. In 2003, we established an Iraqi practice group currently headed by our managing partner, Mr. Khaled Asfour. We assist regional and multinational companies in doing legal work in Iraq. We advise, in association with Iraqi law firms, on all legal matters related to corporate and other activities in Iraq. Our practice spans a broad spectrum and includes general corporate, construction, regulatory, licensing, labour, and intellectual property.
Our general corporate practice includes advising clients in the following areas:
• Updates on new legislation in Iraq;
• Drafting and negotiation of joint venture agreements;
• Formation and registration of Iraqi companies;
• Drafting and interpretation of construction contracts using FIDIC and other formats;
• Drafting and negotiation of employment agreements and the impact of Iraqi labour laws on every aspect of the employer/employee relationship;
• Preparation of lease and sale contracts and their interpretation;
• Establishment of new businesses in Iraq, through the different legal avenues available for foreign investment;
• Ongoing maintenance of Iraqi companies, branch and representative offices in conformity with Iraqi corporate laws and regulations; and
• Drafting and negotiation of distribution and agency agreements.
